Response from Dr. Remien
Having unprotected sex with your wife puts her at risk for becoming infected. If a woman is infected with HIV she can transmit the virus to a baby in utero, during childbirth, or via breast feeding. If you are asking about risk to a child that is already born, you cannot pass the virus to that child through casual contact. Transmission requires direct contact with blood or genital secretions. Please speak with a physician or counselor about your concerns. |
