am positive can my fiace be affected
Sep 22, 2005

dear doctor am positive but my wife negative is there any risk of affecting the child or my wife?

Response from Dr. Remien

Having unprotected sex with your wife puts her at risk for becoming infected. If a woman is infected with HIV she can transmit the virus to a baby in utero, during childbirth, or via breast feeding.

If you are asking about risk to a child that is already born, you cannot pass the virus to that child through casual contact. Transmission requires direct contact with blood or genital secretions.

Please speak with a physician or counselor about your concerns.
