Is it possible 2 test neg?
Aug 29, 2004

My son's father passed away from AIDS last month. He never told me that he was HIV+. He had infected many women. He never took any of his medicene. I know this because we lived together for years. His previous partners have come forward stating that they are now HIV+. I have been testing negative. I haven't had contact with him for a couple of years and tested negative again last month. My question I guess is why. I don't understand why and how I walked away from this?

Response from Dr. Remien

There are many factors that can determine whether or not transmission of HIV occurs when there is unprotected sex between a positive and a negative person. Some of these factors include the amount of exposure to bodily fluid that contains HIV, the condition of the mucous membrane of the uninfected person at the site of exposure (e.g., gums in the mouth, vaginal tract, rectum), the general health of the infected person, the viral strain of HIV, the general health of the uninfected person, genetic susceptibility or immunity of the uninfected person, and more. It is fortunate that you were not infected, whatever the reason or combination of reasons that helped you remain uninfected.
