| Oral Unprotected Sex Risk Dec 7, 2000 Just how risky is my performing oral sex on my lover if I am HIV+ and he is HIV-? I know there may be some risk, but isn't it much lower than if he were performing oral sex on me? The problem is, neither of us enjoy oral sex with condoms. I can live without his giving me a blow job, but I feel sex would be very unsatisfying if I could not give him one. If it is relevant, I have excellent dental hygiene and NEVER experience any kind of bleeding in my gums or brush my teeth before we have sex. |

Response from Dr. Remien
You are perfectly justified in not wanting to give up this activity, and it clearly is not a high risk behavior. Please go to The Body's Safe Sex and HIV Prevention Forum. There are numerous very thorough discussions about oral sex and risk for HIV transmission. |
