I would like to know if it is possible for a lesbian who has HIV to transmit HIV to another lesbian

Response from Dr. Remien

Yes, it is possible for anyone who is HIV+ to transmit HIV to another person, regardless of gender or sexual orientation if there is transmission risk behavior between them. Fundamentally these risk behavior involve the sharing of blood or genital secretions. While it is true that many of the sexual behaviors that lesbians engage in with each other carry no or very limited risk of transmission of HIV, it is still possible for transmission to occur if they engage in a high risk behavior. Please go to the Safe Sex Prevention and Transmission Forum on this website where you will find a lot of information about the risk associated with specific behaviors.
