| HIV2/rare strains? Jun 13, 2001 Hi Dr. Sullivan, When should one be worried about HIV2 or other rare strains the current ELISA tests cannot detect (such as group O)? Or will there be some cross reactivity? Thanks! |

Response from Dr. Sullivan
Currently in the US infections with HIV 2 and O strains are very rare; if someone has immunodeficiency consistent with HIV but tests negative these rare infections should be looked for; the CDC is very helpful with these difficult to diagnose cases;JLS. |
