breast feeding & triple cocktail
May 22, 2000

if I am on cocktail & I breast feed will the cocktail go to the baby? Is it not better for the baby to drink the cocktail milk than to get only AZT after birth?

Response from Dr. Jackson

If you are HIV+ and living in the United States or in a country where you have access to clean water and can afford formula, I strongly suggest that you not breast feed your baby even if you or your baby are taking antiretrovirals as there is still a risk of HIV transmission to your baby.

Brooks Jackson, M.D.
