 Over the past 10 years the number of HIV infected pregnant women in the US has been stable at 6000-7000/year; it is estimated that the overall transmission rate has dropped below 5% which would translate to approximately 200 infants with HIV infection per year and this number is likely to decrease further with more extensive HIV testing of pregnant women.JLS.
