|first woman with hiv
Dec 1, 2000
when was approxmitily the first woman infected with the hiv virus through sexual intercourse.Do we have a documention on this matter.
Also is it true that at the beginning of the epidemic around 1980,the epidemic started with the gay society.
Response from Dr. Luzuriaga
Analysis of blood samples taken in the 1950's has documented HIV infection, but it is unclear as to how long before that HIV might have entered human populations. Once HIV entered human populations, evidence suggests that it was spread by several modes, including sexual transmission, blood transfusion , mother-to-child transmission, and contaminated needles. Heterosexual transmission of HIV has occurred for years and it is impossible to pinpoint when the first woman might have acquired HIV.
