Alone in Montana; dying alone May 26, 2003 I HAVE HAD AIDS FOR 2 YEARS NOW,TOTAL OF 14 YEARS WITH THIS ILLNESS. I STOPED ALL TREATMENTS BECAUSE I FELT I DON'T GET THE PROPER CARE NEEDED IN MONTANA. MY DR. SEEMED TO CARE BUT I DIDNT FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT BEING THAT THERE IS ONLY 2 DOCTORS IN MY CITY THAT TREAT HIV AND AIDS. I JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT I SHOULD EXPECT OF DYING ALONE. DEPRESSED IN MONTANA |

 Dear Montana, I was saddened by your query. You signed your name as "depressed in Montana" and it certainly sounds that you indeed may be depressed, feeling helpless and hopeless. Could you speak to your health care provider about getting mental health help, such as a therapist, social worker, support group, and so on? You might benefit from an anti-depressant. For some, these drugs can be wonder drugs. Do you have friends, family, or clergy who could you a supportive hug? Hang in there. If you are really really in the dying mode, are you a candidate for hospice nursing? Hospice nursing is one of the most gentle ways to exit this world. |
