Response from Dr. Dezube
I imagine that HPV (the wart virus) can indeed be transmitted through the use of sex toys. The HPV virus lives in skin cells (squamous cells) and is spread by skin-to-skin contact. When a person uses a sex toy, some of his/her skin cells can get on to the sex toy. These cells can then transmit the virus. HPV can also be transmitted even when one uses condoms. Again this is because of the skin-to-skin contact. |
