Can KS spread?
Oct 5, 2002

Can KS spread into other parts of the body for instance, lungs, liver, etc like other cancers do? thanks you very much. mark

Response from Dr. Dezube

Dear Mark:

Typically, but not always, KS starts on the skin. It is not uncommon for KS to spread, if left untreated. Typical areas to which it spreads are the lymph nodes, oral cavity, bowels, and lungs. On occasion KS can start in these areas and so it is indeed possible to have internal KS without ever having skin lesions. Patients who are HIV positive and who have KS should be on antiretroviral medications (HIV drugs) to prevent such spread.
