Can an HIV+ person have children without passing the virus to the kids
May 3, 2002

Dr. I would appreciate if you can provide some knowledge about HIV/AIDS. Can an HIV+ person have children without passing the virus to the kids? Method such as sperm washing or whatever.

Response from Dr. Dezube

The question about whether an HIV+ man can have children without passing the virus to the kids is a very important one. The forum which deals with this is "Mixed-HIV status couples". Dr. Robert Remien has many words of wisdom about this subject. Please check out his Feb 2, 2002 post entitled "serodiscordant couple wants baby". Here's the link to it.
