HIV+ with metastatic melanoma of the lymph system
Mar 8, 2003
i'm worried about the lymph nodes in my body as i've had all 27 removed from my right axilla (arm pit) six months ago then went through radiotherap. I've just had one removed from my chest wall and two from my neck. Now in limbo waiting results. Do you think that the cancer could have spread to other places? Do you think that the HIV+ and melanoma are related?

Response from Dr. Dezube

Given that HIV is relative common and melanoma is relatively common, it is not unusual for us to see HIV-positive melanoma patients. It is not clear whether the melanoma is related to the HIV. Your oncologist/melanoma expert should treat you as s/he would any melanoma patient (i.e. an HIV-negative patient). Sometimes interleukin-2 or interferon is given to melanoma patients. Good luck!-- It's not an easy battle, which your are fighting.
