Severe Lower Back Pain associated w/ Neupogen Injections
Sep 2, 2006
Dear Dr. Salisbury,
I am a 33 yr. old Mexican/Italian male w/ HIV and Karposis Sarcoma. Between Doxil infusions I must inject myself with Neupogen daily. I had my second dose of Neupogen, yesterday evening, around 6pm. It's 4am, the very next early morning, and I can't sleep because I have severe lower back pain (bone pain or muscle pain - i'm not sure), maybe it's kidney pain - again I don't know how else to describe it. Is this normal, if so, what can I take for the pain?
Painfully yours,
Gustavo

Response from Ms. Salisbury
Hi, Yes, the pain you are experiencing is usually associated with neupogen injections. It is often referred to as "bone pain." Pain management can be difficult. Usually Tylenol or Advil are used initially. If they provide no relief, you should contact your oncologist (cancer doctor). It is important to let your practitioners know you are experiencing this pain. Take care. Carol
