Hi Dr.Dezube,
I think I am HIV+. I am straight man. I previously had receptive oral sex from a woman whom I think is having KS due to the lesions on her legs.
No deep kissing or no sex except receptive oral sex. Can I get KS??
Please answer me. Thanks in advance.

Response from Dr. Dezube
KS is caused by a type of herpesvirus called HHV-8 or KSHV. It likes to reside in the oral cavity. A recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that the KS virus can be spread by deep kissing. HOWEVER, many viruses can be spread by kissing. If you get infected by the KS virus, this does NOT mean that you will develop KS. Only a small percentage of patients who get the KS virus, actually develop KS. From what you are describing, I believe your risk for developing KS is small.
I don't know what you mean "I think I am HIV+". Either you are or you are not. If you are not sure, then get tested and find out one way or the other.
