Marijuana and HIV
Oct 21, 2008

Is thier any risk in smoking marijuana and being HIV positive Dr. Moyle.

Response from Dr. Moyle

Smoking, both cigaretes and marijuana, are risk factors for heart disease and a variety of cancers. HIV and its treatment also increases these risks. Marijuana use may impact adherence to medication, the single most important factor in treatment success. This being said, anecdotally, may people report a increases sense of well being, relief of pain (such as neuropathy, where it has been studies in persons with HIV) and improved appetite and sleep when using marijuana. Marijuana is of course illegal in many places so its medicinal potential and risk have not been comprehensively assessed.

I hope this helps Dr Moyle
