re My body when I die
Sep 14, 2008

I knonw this is theoretical but could a person who was UD donate organs? If it was a life and death situation, the recipient could take PEP as a preventative and not aquire HIV?

Response from Dr. Moyle

Sorry but any recipient of an organ or other transplant (skin, cornea) from a person with HIV would acquire HIV with the organ. As some of the infected cells in the transplant would be long lived cells taking a course of PEP or pre-exposure prophylaxis would not help. Best Wishes Dr Moyle
