Do I have AIDS or am I HIV+
Jun 1, 2008
I do not think you have read my previous question properly. I clearly stated that my CD4 count HAD dropped below 200 and I HAD pneumonia.
Your reply was that I had not had a CD4 below 200 or an opportunistic disease therefore would not have an AIDS diagnosis in anybody's opinion.
My question again is if your CD4 drops below 200 and then increases with a changed of medication, for Government purposes do I have AIDS or am I HIV+ ?
p.s. I do not intend stopping my medication, I am very strict with my regime.

Response from Dr. Moyle

If your CD4 count has been below 200 and you are in the US then for government purposes you have AIDS and always will have. Europe does not use this immunological AIDS definition. The type of pneumonia influences whether it is an AIDS defining clinical event so if it was bacterial it isn't AIDS, PCP it is
